Thanksgiving Memories

Next week is Thanksgiving already! Wow, how fast this year has gone by! On the 21st, I will fly out to Kansas, where I will spend two weeks with my parents and siblings. It will be the first Thanksgiving that we have spent together in many years. I’m so very excited! I haven’t been able to spend a whole two weeks with them since my girls were little; and they are now 37 and 40 years old! So, you can see why I’m excited!

In thinking about Thanksgiving, it makes me think of the actual Thanksgiving meal and all the favorites we share together each year. One of my absolute favorites is my paternal grandmother’s french dressing. It is so delicious! Our family just loves it! I’d like to share that recipe with you today.

If you decide to give it a try, I’d love to hear what your family thought of it.

Memay’s French Dressing

 Ingredients:

  • 8 large Russet potatoes, peeled and chunked
2 pounds Jimmy Dean’s sage flavored sausage
  • 1 large green pepper, finely chopped
½ cup of butter or more, if needed
2 Tbsp poultry seasoning or sage, to taste
  • Optional 2 stalks celery, finely chopped

Directions:

  • Boil the potatoes in plenty of water until barely tender, not mushy. Drain. Place in large bowl and add milk and butter to make mashed potatoes.
  • While the potatoes are boiling, fry the sausage, green pepper, and poultry seasoning, in frying pan and cook until pink in the sausage is gone. Do not overcook. Drain.
  • Add sausage mixture to the mashed potatoes along with another tablespoon of the poultry seasoning and salt and pepper.  Stir well. Add more butter if the mixture is too dry.
  • Put in a large glass 9×13-inch dish (spray with Pam first for easy clean-up) and bake in a 350-degree oven for 30 minutes. No need to cover with foil, unless you see the top beginning to dry out. It should be okay though.

That’s it! Super easy and oh so delicious!

Until next time, Be Blessed!

You Were Created to Be Victorious!

I’m still a work in progress, but one thing I have learned is that I am an Overcomer! I am no longer a slave to my past! I am no longer a victim! I am VICTORIOUS through Christ Jesus!

I was never created for little things. I was never created to be stomped on and used. I was never created to have demeaning words spoken over me. I was never created to be physically or emotionally abused by ANYONE!

Those things may have happened in my life; but God did not create me to stay in a world of what I call “victimhood”. I did that for many years. Trust me, it doesn’t work! All it does is keeps you in bondage to whatever has such a strong hold on you.

You were created for greatness! Maybe you’ve had things happen to you that never should have happened to you. But girlfriend, I am hear to tell you that GOD DID NOT CREATE YOU FOR THOSE THINGS!

He created you to be victorious!

He created you to rise above your circumstances; run the great race and not grow weary. He created you to take authority over any and all attacks from the enemy!  He created you to stand firm, to take up your shield, to use the Word of God as your weapon of combat against the enemy.

God can and will turn your ashes into beauty, if you allow Him.

Have faith, Sister friend. You will rise above this, like you’ve always done before. Satan cannot keep you down, if you don’t let him! Stand up! Shout NO! Take authority over him and then take your rightful place in the VICTORY God has for you!

1 John 5:4 (NIV)  “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

CREATED TO BE VICTORIOUS

7 Steps to Renewing Your Mind

Romans 12:2 NIV – Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The Bible tells us that we are not to conform to the pattern of this world; but we are to renew our minds. Renewing our minds allows us to be tested and approved through God’s perfect will in our lives.

I used to hear this scripture and think, “How in the world do I renew my mind? Renew my mind from what?”  But, as I was attacked by the enemy more and more with stinkin thinkin, I began to see why it was important to renew my mind.

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  (John 10:10) He will use whatever he can to reach our weakest point. For me, it’s my mind in thinking that I’m not good enough, or that I’m not smart enough. In my childhood, I had a certain individual that would always tell me that I was stupid, and that I was never going to amount to anything. Those words have stuck with me all my life, and I’m nearly 60 years old!

As I read this scripture, I began to ask God how to renew my mind. Is it through reading the Bible? Yes. Is it through becoming more aware of what my thoughts are? Yes! Does it involve a lot of work to renew my mind? YES!! But, it’s so worth it!

So let’s talk about some ways to renew your mind:

  1. PRAY – The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much! James 5:16 Prayer is so important. It keeps the line of communication between you and God open.  Ask for prayer from others, also. We benefit from sharing with someone else what we are going through.
  2. Read the Word daily! If you don’t read the Word, how will you ever know what God says about you? How will you ever know who God truly is?
  3. Take every thought captive! 2 Corinthians 10:5 says that by taking our thoughts captive, we destroy every proud obstacle that keeps us from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. In other words, every time you have a negative thought about yourself, you need to remind yourself what God’s Word, which is truth, says about you.
  4. Keep standing on the Word! No matter what your thoughts are about yourself, standing on the word of God keeps bringing to mind what GOD says about us, and in time, your thinking WILL turn around!
  5. Put up post-it notes with reminders of what the word of God says about you, everywhere you can see them: the bathroom  mirror, your dashboard, your lunch bag, inside your wallet, on the refrigerator. You need to see the Word in front of you! I call them “Instant Reminders“.
  6. Resist the temptation to believe the lies of the enemy.  (James 4:7) This takes work, and consistency. You have to stay on top of this, no matter how you feel! You may find yourself slipping into negative thoughts, and as soon as you do, take authority over them right then and there! Do not give the enemy a foothold into your thought life! You are a child of God! You are loved and accepted by the Lord of Lords, and King of Kings! You are more than a Conqueror! Remind the enemy of that…every single time!
  7. Find scriptures that deal specifically with your thoughts. For me, I used to deal a lot with guilt and condemnation. So I know when those times hit, I need to focus on scriptures like Romans 8:1, and 1 John 1:9.
  8. Meditate on the Word of God. (Psalms 1:1-3) Think on the things that God says to you through His word. Don’t just read over them. Really meditate on what He is saying to you. Ask the Lord to show you what He means by the word He gives you; to give you revelation knowledge of it.

These are just a few of the steps I take each day. It’s important to me to do my best to stay strong and fight the negative thinking. Does that mean that I don’t ever have negative thoughts about myself? I Wish!! No, it just means that when I do have those negative thoughts, I know how to fight them. Most of my negative thoughts have disappeared, or maybe I should say that they don’t come around as often.

As I said in the beginning, renewing our mind takes work. It takes dedication. It takes consistency in fighting off the lies of the enemy, and standing on the Word of God! You just have to, for your own good! It will be worth it! Whom the Son sets free is free indeed! John 8:36

I hope these suggestions will help you find peace in your hearts and rest for your minds. Negative thinking is one of the biggest tools the enemy uses against us. If we submit to God, stand strong, and resist the enemy, the Word promises that the enemy will flee. James 4:7

If you have ways that you use now to renew your mind, please share them below! I’d love to hear them.

Living Life Fearlessly

In 2 Timothy 1:7, it says that God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind. A sound mind comes only from leaning into Him and staying in His word.

I’m so thankful for missionaries who spread the Gospel to those who have never heard of God! Before I learned who God really was my life was a mess! An absolute mess! I was drinking, smoking dope, and running around on my then husband. I had no clue what it meant to have a “relationship” with God.

I grew up only going to church for weddings, funerals, Easter, and Christmas. I did, however, have a step-grandmother who took me to church with her when I was ten years old. I heard message after message, but didn’t really know what it meant to have a relationship, you know what I mean? I thought God was amazing! He was powerful, and He could get really mad at you if you screwed up!

So, when my life was so screwed up, I never thought in a million years that God could even want to be a part of my life! I had friends who invited me to church many times, but I always kept saying “I don’t need that crap”. That embarrasses me today to admit that! But, it’s the truth.

Today, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I know what it means now. He is always with me, directing my path, comforting me when I need it, guiding me, helping me, and being there when I need Him. He has never let me down; even when I let Him down. I read my Bible often and wonder how in the world God could have chosen someone like me! I screw up every day. I lose my temper. I whine and complain about stupid things that really don’t even matter. I let people down.  How could He want me as His child? Because He Loves Me … just the way I am!

I don’t have to pretend with Him. I don’t have to hide behind a mask. He knows me, inside and out. He knows my every thought, and deed; and He still loves me! I am so thankful for His love, grace, and mercy. Even a screw up like me can be His child!

Have you wondered how God could ever accept someone like YOU? I know how you feel. I would love to talk to you about it. You can email me HERE, if you ever want to talk.

God is a BIG God. He does not have favorites. He does not condemn. He LOVES YOU so much that He sent His only Son to die for you! Let that sink in for a bit. Really meditate on that. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done; or are doing now. Just ask Him! It’s time to let the fear of God go! It’s time to live life fearlessly, as He wants you to!

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Girl, Step Out of the Boat!

I don’t admit this often, but I am a very insecure person. I can hide it well with a beautiful, warrior-type mask; but overall, I am pretty shy and insecure.

I admit that only because I know there are many more out there who are like me. You hide behind that same beautiful mask that only allows others to see the person you want them to see. Lord only knows what they would think of you if you were to be your true-self, right? That’s what I have thought for far too many years!

I’ve been listening to personal development authors, like Rachel Hollis, Levi Lusko, Sharon Jaynes, and more, for years!  I’ve read books by the millions on personal development, how to be your true self, how to believe you are enough. They all fit me to a T when I read them, but then something happens after I’m done with the book, or listening to the podcast or video. I begin to allow the lies of the enemy to sink in; I’m not smart enough to be a writer; who would ever come and listen to me if I were to get a speaking engagement, I don’t have enough followers on my blog, or Facebook Speaker/Writer page, etc. etc. etc.

Then just today someone posted a question on Facebook that asked if you had ever wanted to write a book. I responded ME. Her comment back to me was “You’ve always wanted to write a book since I’ve known you. Are you ever going to do it?” It was the “are you ever going to do it” that hit me….hard! Yea, Christi, are you ever going to do it?? What is stopping you? Why are you waiting? What fears are you facing? Will you ever get beyond those fears and actually do it?

Those questions hurt. The answer to all of them is of course, yes! So what is stopping me? I AM STOPPING ME! I am the only one stopping me! And it’s time I got out of the boat and faced my fears, and did something I’ve always wanted to do…write a book!

So, I’ve decided to start here by sharing some of the topics I would write about…when I do write my book! Topics like, living fearlessly, are you a victim or a victor, do you really believe that you are enough? … and so many more.

Today, I’m stepping out of the boat; just as Peter did when he saw Jesus walking on the water. I am going to take His hand and walk the path that I have known for a long time the Lord has wanted me to take. I’m no longer going to allow fear to stop me from doing what I love!

What have you always wanted to do, but fear has stopped you from doing it? Will you join me today, and face this fear together with me?
